upgrade

Run capa upgrade when capa notifies you that a newer version is available, or whenever you want the latest release.

Terminal window
capa upgrade [-y]
FlagDescription
-y, --yesSkip the confirmation prompt (required in non-interactive / CI environments)

Global flags still apply; see Global flags.

After most other commands, capa may print a notice if an update exists and point you here.

capa upgrade never pipes a mutable installer from the web. Instead it:

  1. Looks up the latest release tag on GitHub.
  2. Downloads that release’s SHA256SUMS.txt and prints a preview: version, installer (install.sh, or install.ps1 on Windows), its URL and SHA-256, and the binary asset with its SHA-256.
  3. Asks for confirmation (default: no). Without a TTY, it exits unless you pass --yes.
  4. Downloads the tagged installer and checks its SHA-256 against SHA256SUMS.txt. A mismatch aborts the upgrade.
  5. Stops the capa server if it is running.
  6. Runs the verified local copy of the installer with CAPA_VERSION set to the release, which in turn verifies the binary checksum.

Downloads are restricted to https://github.com and https://api.github.com.

To install a specific (older or pinned) version instead of the latest, use the install script with CAPA_VERSION; see Installation.
